In honor of my my upcoming book, Lady Bits (it’s soooooo close to being done!!!), I’m offering a new series of posts about how to tap into your inner goddess. Why? Because in today’s time-poor, over-stressed society, many of us have lost a bit of our radiant, uniquely feminine *spark.* Many of us (and I know, from experience) crawl into bed at the end of a long day feeling anything but goddess-like… Rather, we feel bone-tired and blah.

Now here’s the deal: when I say “goddess,” I’m not referring to sexiness, being a siren, or creating a “look” or a way of being for the pleasure of others. Rather, I’m talking about a feeling deep within yourself. A feeling that affirms, “yes! I am a woman! I’m beautiful inside and out, I’m strong, I’m confident, and I’m powerful.”

To me, a living GODDESS is someone who understands and embraces every aspect of her body, her sexuality, her strengths, and even her weaknesses. She loves herself, she accepts herself, and she radiates positive energy.

Here’s another great definition of a goddess:

“A goddess is a woman who emerges from deep within herself. She is a woman who has honestly explored her darkness and learned to celebrate her light. She is a woman who is able to fall in love with the magnificent possibilities within her. She is a woman who knows of the magic and mysterious places inside her, the sacred places that can nurture her soul and make her whole. She is a woman who radiates light. She is magnetic. “ ~ Author Unknown

All of that sounds great, but…

A FemFusion friend recently sent me a message, saying, “How do I tap into my inner goddess? I am having a lot of trouble with this. I never really have seen myself as one and I don’t know where to start. Can you help?”

I’ve gotta be honest: whenever “goddess-talk” comes up, I wonder the same thing. I walk around in sweatpants all day, and half the time I forget to shower. So I’m with you… All of this hooplah about an “inner goddess” sounds great, but how does one find her?

I think it’s different for everyone, but for me, there are some simple things that I can do ANY TIME, and (almost) anywhere when I feel like I’m losing my spark:

  • First, I forgive myself for any perceived shortcomings and accept myself exactly as I am.
  • Next, I light a candle (tip #1), and then I…
  • Put on some drum music and dance (tip #2).

There’s something about FIRE and RHYTHM that perk up my inner wild-woman — my inner GODDESS — every time.


The dancing is key. Although I can (and sometimes do) dance with my husband or my son, I like it best when I dance alone. That’s when I can really let loose and be free. Thankfully I have the opportunity to do this at least a few times each week, in practicing (and teaching) my FemFusion classes which are based on lots of hip circles, swirls, and fun, feminine movements.
