The sun is finally starting to show her radiant face in my neck of the woods! If you’re like me, the shift to spring has you thinking about CLEANING. Not just house cleaning (although that’s good too), but INTERNAL cleansing… Detoxing the mind and body from the inside out. Spring is the perfect time for a nutritional reset, and using essential oils to enhance your detox experience will help you get the most out of any cleanse or detox plan you choose to follow.
As stated in The Essential Life, “The skin naturally serves as a pathway for detoxification. Keeping the skin clean and open will aid the body in the detoxification process.”
Following are three skin cleansing recipes using essential oils — my new favorite tool(s) for a healthy, natural lifestyle. If this piques your interest, contact me about my April special (valid through April 30, 2016). All new Wellness Advocates will receive wholesale pricing, two free e-books (my “Essential Recipes” book, exclusive to my team, and a “Getting Started Guide”), AND a free 45-minute health coaching session. It’s a pretty rockin’ deal. Contact me if you’d like to learn more (email@example.com)!
Foot Soak Detox Bath:
- 1/4 cup Epsom salt
- 1/4 cup baking soda
- 2 Tbsp Redmond Clay powder or bentonite clay
- Enough warm-to-hot (100-110 degree F) water to cover feet in foot bath tub
- 4-5 drops of essential oil of choice (grapefruit, lemon, lemongrass, clove, and rosemary are great for cleansing)
Soak feet in detox bath for 10-15 minutes. Wrap with a warm towel to dry. Discontinue use if you notice any skin irritation or discomfort.
Sugar Scrub for Cellulite:
- 1 cup organic cane sugar
- 1/2 cup olive oil, liquified coconut oil (cooling — great for summertime or inflamed skin), or sesame oil (warming — great for wintertime or people who tend to be cold all the time)
- 3 drops grapefruit EO
- 3 drops wild orange EO
- 2 drops lemongrass EO
- 2 drops clove EO
Mix all ingredients together. Use in “trouble areas” to reduce the appearance of cellulite.* Gently scrub for a few minutes, then rinse. Use twice a week. Caution: This will make your bathtub or shower slippery! Use a bath mat. Discontinue use if you notice any skin irritation or discomfort.
*Sadly, nothing (that I know of) will eliminate cellulite other than being blessed with cellulite-free genes… But eating clean, moving every day, and using this scrub will help!
Detox Body Scrub to Purify:
- 1/2 cup baking soda
- 2-3 Tbsp olive oil, liquified coconut oil (cooling — great for summertime or inflamed skin), or sesame oil (warming — great for wintertime or people who tend to be cold all the time)
- 4 drops lavender EO
- 3 drops rosemary EO
- 2 drops melaleuca EO
Mix all ingredients together to create a paste. Add more or less oil until you achieve desired consistency. Use in shower as a cleanser and exfoliator. Take small amounts of paste in the palm of your hand, add water to thin slightly, and then gently scrub skin for a few minutes. Rinse, and then move onto next area. Use twice a week. Caution: This will make your bathtub or shower slippery! Use a bath mat. Discontinue use if you notice any skin irritation or discomfort.
“Crave Away” Inhalation Technique:
Place 1-2 drops grapefruit EO into palms, rub hands together, cup hands 6-8 inches in front of your nose and inhale deeply. Use whenever you’re experiencing a craving, especially for starchy carbs and sugar!
Note: The recipes above were inspired by The Essential Life, my favorite EO reference book.
